El Chaparral

Carlos R. and Mary Garcia initiated their journey with El Chaparral by selling their modest San Antonio home to acquire what was then known as Rudy and Irene's in Helotes on February 2nd. Little did they anticipate that this unassuming establishment, previously a Mexican restaurant for twenty-four years, would evolve into a world-class destination. In June 2008, they opened a San Antonio location at the corner of 1604 and Redland Rd, occupying 7800 square feet, and also acquired six pristine acres in Boerne to expand their reach. Furthermore, they revamped their flagship location inside and out, partnering with Lush Greenscapes for unique landscape designs. El Chaparral's menu boasts an enticing array of Mexican culinary delights, including their signature "Bean Soup," tantalizing Chimichangas, Puffy Tacos, Crispy Flautas, Chalupas, Carne Guisada Platters, delicious Fajitas Famosas, and a variety of Enchiladas Entreés.

Little Red Barn Steakhouse

In 1963, Ralph and Lili Hernandez transformed an old meat market into one of the country's largest steakhouses, The Little Red Barn Steakhouse. Their legacy began on Labor Day of that year when Ralph, doubling as the butcher and cook, and Lili, juggling roles as waitress and cashier, opened the doors to their uniquely painted bright red establishment. What started with just 8 tables for 32 diners has flourished into a thriving family-owned spot, seating over 800 people today. This beloved steakhouse is renowned for its excellent steaks, fast service, and affordable prices. The Western atmosphere greets you as soon as you walk in, with a hostess in cowboy attire promptly seating you and serving a salad with house-made dressing. The menu is painted on the walls, surrounded by cattle brands from local ranchers, embodying the rich Texan heritage. The Little Red Barn is more than a steakhouse; it's a place where employees are family, customers are treated like guests, and the Texas spirit is celebrated. Owned today by Ralph and Lili's daughters, Marissa Garcia and Nancy Hernandez, it remains a testament to their dedication to great service, hospitality, and quality products at reasonable prices.

This culinary approach, deeply rooted in generations of tradition, pride, and heritage, invites patrons to savor the authentic flavors of Mexico while becoming a part of the recipe for fun, food, and happiness. The original door frame from the former Dairy Queen at 4223 Blanco Rd still stands as a humble reminder that, at Los Barrios, family is the most essential and cherished ingredient of all.
