If you’re one of the many San Antonians that love listening to music and jamming out at concerts, you’re in luck, because we know that this city has something for everyone! Whether you want to catch some local Tejano music, hip-hop, or punk acts, or maybe a big-name touring musician instead, these are the best music venues in San Antonio to hear some sweet sounds. Check out these 10 spots, and you’ll soon see what makes the San Antonio music scene stand out in Texas.

ALAMODOME
100 Montana St, San Antonio, TX 78203
Website | Instagram | Facebook

The Alamodome might be best known as the home to UTSA college football, it’s also a great place to attend a concert. This San Antonio music venue is a must-stop for touring musicians because of its massive seating capacity as well as its design. George Strait visited his hometown on tour and broke a venue record in 2013 when he performed for 73,086 people. One awesome detail is that this convention center and dome hybrid is free from one of the biggest concert-goer pet peeves—poles. That means every seat is a great one, and you’ll never find yourself stuck behind a column that blocks your view.

AT&T CENTER

1 AT&T Center Parkway, San Antonio, TX 78219
Website | Instagram | Facebook

San Antonio Spurs fans will recognize the AT&T Center as the place to be to catch a game by their home team, but it’s another great place to watch a huge concert. With plenty of seating, the convenience of food and drinks at the concession stands, and an exclusive VIP room, you’ll get to experience a wide variety of shows here. The AT&T Center offers various group packages to make your concert experience fit your budget, too. Or, treat yourself and take advantage of premium seating, either opting for the terrace suites, theater boxes, or front row seating to get up close and personal with a performance.

FITZGERALD’S BAR & LIVE MUSIC VENUE
437 McCarty Rd #101, San Antonio, TX 78216
Website | Instagram | Facebook

This local hotspot for a variety of acts is well-known for offering great food and hosting tribute bands like Blackened, a Metallica cover group. With a large stage, outdoor space, and a full bar, this 400+ capacity venue offers an intimate chance to get up close and personal with the San Antonio music scene. Want to get in on the action yourself? Join them for an open mic jam night three days a week and appreciate their top-notch sound and lighting capabilities. Make sure to show up hungry if you want to experience hearty menu items like their signature barbecue brisket grilled cheese sandwich. Pair that with one of their craft beers, domestic and imported brews, or soft drinks, and you’re ready to sit back and enjoy some tunes.

FREEMAN COLISEUM
3201 E Houston St, San Antonio, TX 78219
Website | Instagram | Facebook

San Antonio is known for having spacious sporting settings that double as world-class concert venues, and the Freeman Coliseum is part of those ranks. The massive 32,000-square-foot art deco coliseum is a treat to see. The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has happened here, as well as circus acts, wrestling, and more. When you want to grab current music by the horns, come by the Freeman to enjoy a variety of rock, Tejano, country, alternative, and more. It’s a great spot to listen to musical performances from today’s hottest artists. With ample seating, concessions, and more than 70 years of making great memories, there’s something for everyone at the Freeman!

LUNA
6740 San Pedro Ave, San Antonio, TX 78216
Website | Instagram | Facebook
LUNA is all about bringing local music artists and bands to the front of the stage. If you’ve been looking for a San Antonio music venue that fosters the creativity of local musicians, LUNA is the place to listen like a local. At LUNA, you’ll find everything from salsa to soul in their seductive space. Dimly-lit, this is a great option if you’re trying to find the perfect soundtrack to your date night. The space also hosts poetry slams and open mic nights if spoken word is more your jam.

MAJESTIC THEATRE
224 E Houston St, San Antonio, TX 78205
Website | Instagram | Facebook

The street that houses the Majestic Theatre is home to Alamo City history and the neighboring Charline McCombs Empire Theatre. These two help tell the story of music in San Antonio, and the interior and exterior architecture is a great testament to it. Though they both opened in the early 1900s, the Empire fell into disrepair and closed for a time. As part of the Majestic Theatre project, it was reopened and restored to its former glory. As for the music, the performances are always something special. From touring artists to amazing musicals, the Majestic Theatre is an integral part of the heart of downtown San Antonio. And speaking of musicals, you can even catch performances from Broadway hits like Hamilton, Jesus Christ Superstar, and The Phantom of the Opera. Come for the music, and stay for the show at the Majestic!

PAPER TIGER
2410 N St Mary's St, San Antonio, TX 78212
Website | Instagram | Facebook

Want more contemporary and Tejano music in your life? Or are you just looking for a great place to hang out? We think it’s time you gave Paper Tiger a listen. Known for hosting incredible local artists, this place features contemporary rock, Tejano, punk, country, and pretty much any other genre you can think of. Because of their diverse musical stylings, it’s a paradise for live music lovers. While some music venues can quickly rack up the prices and fees, Paper Tiger tends to lean on the affordable side, making it a great option if you want to frequently catch a show.

THE MIX
423 N St Mary's St, San Antonio, TX 78212
Website | Instagram | Facebook

The Mix’s eclectic bar is the perfect live music pairing. Located on the lively St. Mary's Strip, The Mix offers a funky blend of music, drinks, and food alongside nightly performances. If you’re looking for a spot with a bit of a club vibe and a dance floor to cut loose on, this is going to be your new go-to. They often have free shows with impressive local acts, so make sure to pay attention to their lineup. Just keep in mind that you’ll need to be 21 or up to enter the venue.

THE ROCK BOX
1223 E Houston St, San Antonio, TX 78205
Instagram | Facebook

The name says it all, but it still doesn’t prepare you for how much this place loves rock n’ roll, or the not-so-secret speakeasy. Featuring two bars and a patio, this is a good in-between place if you don’t want to feel super cramped but you don’t want to go to one of the coliseum-style venues. When you want to hang out on a bar stool with a drink in hand and enjoy a show, come see for yourself that the rock n’ roll lifestyle is going strong in the San Antonio music scene.
